The Toyota Way

  • Toyota

I joined Toyota Financial Services UK (TFSUK) in May 2024 as an interim consultant, working within the pricing team at its UK headquarters on a lovely eco-campus outside Epsom in Surrey.

TFSUK is a subsidiary of TMC (Toyota Motor Corporation), which is listed on several stock exchanges around the world including Tokyo, London, New York and Nagoya.

TMC is the largest car manufacturing company in the world, with over 10m cars manufactured and sold each year, and a current annual revenue and market capitalization of over USD300bn.

TFSUK is one of the largest auto lenders in the UK, with over £6b of assets, offering products including PCP (Personal Contract Purchase), HP (Hire Purchase), and Contract Hire (CH) to its customers. The company is the captive finance provider for TGB (Toyota Great Britain), which is the UK Sales and Marketing Company, selling and distributing Toyota, Lexus and Mazda vehicles, through a network of franchised dealers around the UK and Northern Ireland.

TFSUK has four brands including Toyota Financial Services, Lexus Financial Services, Mazda Financial Services, and Redline Finance, where it offers finance to non-franchised dealer partners, such as Arnold Clark, Lookers and Group 1.

Due to the phenomenal success of Toyota over the past several decades, a huge amount of literature has been produced on the management philosophies underpinning the Toyota Way, which have made the company what it is today.

The Toyota Way has two main pillars including continuous improvement and respect for people, which guide the various management philosophies such as kaizen, kanban, Hoshin Kanri, genba, genchi genbutsu, muda.

I am enormously grateful and privileged to be given the opportunity to work for the company, and in this blog, I will be sharing some insights, experiences and learnings from my time at the company.
